Red Lick Records, the UK and Europe's leading specialist blues music mail order supplier for almost 30 years, is re-emerging this summer with new owners and from a new location.
Having built a premier reputation as the specialist source of all styles and formats of blues related music from a location in Porthmadog, North Wales, operational details are currently being finalised by the new owners to re-open for business from a new base in Cardiff, South Wales.
Tony Chilcott, the new Managing Director of Red Lick Records Ltd, says "As a customer since the very beginning nearly 30 years ago, Red Lick has long been an important part of my blues education and ongoing source of enjoyment. With Ken and Ann Smith retiring in 2007 from the full-time responsibilities of Red Lick, I felt it was important for someone to continue with Red Lick for future generations of blues lovers."
The plan for the business is initially to re-create Red Lick as it has been over the years, with a focus on range and depth of stock, expert advice and recommendations and a commitment to a high quality service at competitive prices. The first catalogue of 2008 is being scheduled for a July release but the website (www.redlick. com) will be regularly updated to keep customers and other contacts informed of progress and dates to look out
Tony says: "We will start by contacting the loyal customer base that has been impressively built over the years and re establishing relationships with key distributors, suppliers and
partners. We intend to do this to ensure that when we do re-open we can hit the ground running and provide from the first day as efficient and friendly service as Red Lick customers have come to expect. We will of course also be looking for new contacts and customers so anyone interested should get in touch."
Critical to the achievement of customer continuity is that Red Lick founders and previous owners Ken and Ann Smith will remain a key part of the new Red Lick team, acting as consultants and advisers and providing a lead on editorial content for them reviews that will feature in future Red Lick catalogues.
Tony says: "As well as their advice and guidance in running a mail order business, the expert knowledge of blues and other musical forms of Ken and Ann is widely recognised and acknowledged as being almost encyclopaedic. It would be a great loss to Red Lick customers and the blues world in general if they did not continue to participate in some way and we are all excited about their continued involvement. "
Ken Smith says: "Having created and built Red Lick over nearly 30 years it was very important to Ann and myself that when we retired it was passed on to new owners who could continue to serve our fantastic and loyal customers and, in many cases, friends. We are extremely pleased to have been able to pass the baton on to Tony and his wife Julie whose love of the blues reminds Ann and I very much of how we were when we started."
